Welcome to the Scavenger Hunts from Life.
The Hunts were started in 2006 by Jamie Williams Grossman as a way to practice with prompts. Artists have come and gone while forming some lasting friendships. We hope you will join in and tune up your sketching skills. All levels and techniques are welcome. We hope you can have some good times here. You can travel the world seeing the sketches of items at hand by the artists.

If you’ve participated in at least one Scavenger Hunt and have time to host one we would really appreciate it. You can sign up by posting your name on the current hosting schedule in the Art From Life forum here:

https://creativespark.art/threads/scavenger-hunt-from-life-host-sign-up-list.2481/page-9

Here are the rules for the Hunt:
All everyday common items on the list must be sketched from life – not imagination or photo reference.

  • Each object you draw can count for only one item on the list, no matter how many shapes/parts/colors that object contains. This was agreed on by unanimous vote among the participants.
  • You may place multiple objects together in a drawing or painting, and may count these objects as separate items, but no single object can count for more than one item.
  • All items posted must be numbered. Count them as you go. The first item you post will be #1 regardless of its place on the list. Do them in whatever order you wish, but count them in the order in which you sketch them, from 1 to 26.
  • Do as many or as few of the items as you like. You don’t have to finish the entire list to participate. The Scavenger Hunt “week” will last for 12 days, with the next hunt starting on the 12th day.
  • Please tell us your size, surface, medium, and the amount of time it took you for each sketch. We love hearing about your subjects and setups. Photos of your subjects are welcome.
  • Have fun!
*** If you have some hunt sketches completed but little time to read/comment, please post your sketches anyway. Commenting is appreciated but not required.

#4 water item ...a retired small battleship exhibited at one of the Thai navy posts in SaiRi beach, Chumphon. The battleship tributes the late Prince Chumphon who had started to use this bay for the Thai navy post over 120 years ago. The Prince was sent by his father (King Rama the fifth) to school in the UK and focused on setting up of the Thai navy, once he was back to Thailand....I did this sketch thinking of our friend, Fletch....a quick digi on my phone, using my finger.

Jo, thanks for the new list. I'll have to sneak in some sketches today...hopefully.

Ai, your sketches from the trip are so great. You've really captured the area and the cliffs. I had really liked the nocturnal one, but these really show the detail of the area so I'm enjoying that. Great sketch of the ship...and with your finger too! Bravo!!

Ai - That looks like blowup Santa. Hope he holds up better than the last one. Agree with Joan you really are putting us there with you and Tone enjoying the beautiful cliffs. Thanks for Navy thoughts. For a retired ship it looks well maintained. Props for a finger sketch

Jade - fun seasonal cat who looks ready to party in a nature provided tux look and Santa hat.

Keep sketching and learning,
Fletch

I did get out for part of the day to do some shopping and then stopped to do a sketch in a wooded area in Brookhaven. Today was sunny and a bit warmer than the last few days, so most of the snow that was on the trees and shrubs melted off. But there is still some of it on the ground.
1 - tree bark - watercolors and ink
2 - winter item (snow)

JennieJo, Had to look up BABBA, hmmm. You do great sketches so it can't apply to that!!!

Ai, Ah, the Santa at the cafe is so cute with the fishy items. My smile for tonight. The greenery painting is so lovely and the Red Rock, too. Wow. The ship sketch digi is so good. Thanks for the photos so we can see more of your world. Mmmmm good.

Jade, another smile for the kitty kat in the Santa hat.

Hi Fletch!

Joan, I like the tree bark and snow so much. Happy to see it and not be cold! We had gloomy damp day with mist but about 60 degrees so not too bad.

Hopefully I will get more sketches done for this Hunt.

Well, no sketch today... as Tone and I left our Air-bnb place in Chumphon quiet early in the morning to head back to Bangkok. Tone did complete a 6.5 hour drive back to Bangkok home. I will be back to work full steam tomorrow. Thank you all for your kind support of my sketches and trip of Southern Thailand provinces: PrachuabKiriKhan and Chumphon. Hope to get back to sketching from Bangkok soon.

JoC - thanks for good list....Thanks for being here

Ai - Your Santa is cheery and surrounded by wonderful creatures!
Gorgeous landscape!! Lucky you! Good job -environments can be so overwhelmingly beautiful it's distracting, exciting and intimidating all in one. Glad you made a go of it. Glad you two got some time away. thanks for sharing with us.

Jade - cute kitty with a tuxedo and bow tie....love the green eyes and velveted paws

Joan - lovely snow scape....brrrrr....after the Ai beach the transition wakes one up...love the shadows on the snow and the branches reaching and steadfast.

Hi Fletch and lurkers.
