Scavenger Hunt from Life #176: Nov 22 - Dec 4 , 2025

PineCone: What a nice festive joyful sketch. I am sorry to hear that you have to fight the cold. I wish I could send you warmth. Please be safe.

Robin:
Thanks for stopping by. Sorry that your works seem super busy... but I hope there will be a short brief moment for your lines to dance again.

This is not an art from life but it is special today for @Joan T

Jo, I figured you had to recognize the dots. Every once in a while I end up in an old time candy store and they have some of the candies I remember. I do remember the candy cigarettes...anything to get kids to think about them in a positive way.

Ai, you always make your food look extra yummy. That fruit pancake looks really delicious. I like how you simplified that old house. Nice work on everything. Thanks for the birthday wish and the sketch...so thoughtful of you.

Pine Cone, I love your addition of the word Joy to the sketch. It was a nice, creative, and thoughtful touch. I hope it brings you joy in your life. Do you have fingerless gloves for when you are sketching in the cold? They look funny but definitely come in handy.

Yesterday the NYC Urban Sketchers met at the Cathedral of St John the Divine in Manhattan. We were waiting for a performer to do a rehearsal for his concert. The piano was ready, but he was late.

Ai, yummy on the Dutch pancakes. Look so good and your drawing is amazing. Your coffee or tea is so pretty. And the flowers, I guess Dutch have to have tulips. The old house near the park is lovely and well sketched.

Pine Cone, wow on the beautiful window and decorations. Love it. Hope you get your heater fixed.

Robin, yes you sound busy. Extra cash I hope.

Hi Jade.

Happy, happy birthday Joan. 🎂 Love Ai's drawing.
Your birthday blueberry cheesecake looks and sounds amazing. Love the plate, too. The sketch in the cathedral is so well done. Love the wreath. The statue of Archangel Michael is gorgeous. You captured the metal armor and strong stance perfectly.

Jo, thanks for the birthday wishes and your comments. After that cheesecake I have to start being much more careful about what I'm eating. lol Hope you and Gene are doing well.

Joan- $0.25! We use to pay a penny! Says a lot about inflation the last 50 years. Belated birthday wishes.Your birthday cheesecake looks delicious. Assume those were stain glass windows? Archangel Michael is excellent. Frame-able!.

Ai - The macchiato itself is a work of art. The one pancake reminds me of a white pizza. I use to like those for a change. The painting looks as good as the food! Fun mall painting.

Pine Cone - Excellent line work. Adding the joy was a great touch. And thank you for that wish. Hope you are coping well with the cold.

#5 animal and #6 festive - stuffy of a dog. Drew in graphite than added color pencil and white POSCA marker in pocket sketchbook. The Santa hat adds a touch of festive.

Keep sketching and learning

Ai, I love the Christmas decorations from the mall. I haven't ventured near a mall lately. Too crazy with all the Black Friday sales and promotions. Does it get as crazy there?

Fletch, thanks for the birthday wishes. The cheesecake was really good. Jerry said it was the best one he's ever tasted...but give him anything with blueberries on top and he's happy. This one had blueberries through the cheesecake. I'll have to remember this bakery in the future. They sold individual slices so I didn't have a whole cheesecake to tempt me. I love the soft sketch of the stuffy dog...so cute! The combo of the materials worked well.

I was driving through Bellport looking for something to sketch and saw this cute guy in the window of the shop.

Joan - Your painting brings up memories of shops on Liberty and Jamaica avenues decorated for the holidays. Almost everything down here is malls or strip malls. Punta Gorda proper has a small section of shops that the city decorates but it’s not really a spot to go walking. It is mostly restaurants, cafes, a few bars, realtors and insurance agents. Forgot the hair salons that have all become spas. Anyway thanks for the memories.

Ai, love the mall decorations, so colorful.

Fletch, your doggie is so cute. A Christmas note card.... Very fluffy.

Joan, your animal is precious and the windows look great and festive.

My day out tomorrow so will see if decorations are up downtown. They do all the trees in white/clear lights and put up wreaths or candy canes or something.

Thanks, Jade, Joan, Fletch, Jo, et al.

Jo:
Just enjoy your day out... We all need it, and even holidays time, though fun and loving, can still bring us hectic engagement. Enjoy your time, and not too stress out of finding big things to sketch.

Joan:
The grand piano in festive majestic setting and the gorgeous storefront really lift us great holidays spirit.

Fletch: Love your poochie with holiday hat. You gave him some loving and gentle feel. Great work.

Fletch, thanks. My town doesn't have a real "town" area...just small strip malls. That's why I gravitate to Sayville and Bellport and towns like that for a "town feel" where I can find a different look in each building and walk around. More and more they keep building so that everything looks the same. Ugh!

Jo, most of the towns around here are already decorated. I don't go out much at night, but it is nice to see the lights when I do.

Ai, thanks. I was really hoping for music at St John the Divine. We were there once and there were groups performing continuously. It was "heavenly." Saturday it was much too quiet inside. I like your students that are concentrating so hard.

I had to have my car inspected and get an oil change this morning, so I brought along my iPad to do some digital sketching. These are quick continuous line sketches I did in the waiting area of the Toyota service of two of the other drivers waiting for their cars.

15 - fast sketches - Procreate
IMG_0370.jpegIMG_0369.jpeg
I also did a regular sketch with Procreate but it doesn't really fit any of the items and my brain isn't ready for associations. lol

Ai, ohhh, love more people. You are great at capturing the gestures. Fun.

Joan, your people are excellent as well. You can feel them reading. You have a couple of free spaces this Hunt or did you use them already?

I went to Smithville to look at chairs and tables at the only furniture store there. I didn't find a new chair with a footstool. I found a table maybe, at an antique store I have to measure. I ate at Quinto Patio and had a puffy taco. Never had one before. Good. So ran out of time as I had to go to the pharmacy on the way back home. They had some gingerbread men all over town. Most about 4 feet tall, but a huge one by the Chamber of Commerce so hope to get back for those. And no photos.... Sigh.
Number 3 character - a statue on the counter at the restaurant about 3 feet tall. Watercolor and Ohuhu pen .3 in the Ohuhu mixed media sketchbook. It's almost full and I like the paper so ordered another one yesterday
