Scavenger Hunt from Life #173: Oct 17 - Oct 29

Pine Cone - Excellent! You need to relook at your work. Because there is texture. First you drew the stones with natural lines not straight lines. That implies texture that the the eyes and brain ’see’. Plus the darker stones are shaded without any blending so the tooth of the paper comes through and adds texture. You may have wanted more texture but your drawing has plenty as the wall reads as rough stone.😎

Ai - Love the water park. Reminds me of the sailing club in Hawaii many years ago. We learned to sail on Widgeons. They are about 12 ft long maybe 4-5 ft in beam. Great fun. Thanks for the memory.😁

Fletch, thanks. I bought two lace scarves. I thought they would be the most practical items…as much as I love some of the clothing. That’s just not me. Lol

Jo, Burano is so pretty with all the colors. The food is great too. Sat at an outdoor restaurant and had to keep chasing the pigeons away. I think they become more of a problem every year.

Pine Cone, your tones in the brickwork looks great to me! Since I was never a hatcher I don’t have that problem. Your texture works.

Ai, you did a good job saving the whites of the sails. Nicely done. Looks like we could each take a boat out and race. Lol

Jade, thanks. The Burano buildings are right out of a Crayola box.

Jade, and all: Thanks.

Joan: Thanks. Yes, I recognize the Burano building right away. Excellent sketch.

Fletch: Thanks. Your shading in the bottle is fantastic.

PineCone: Thanks. Wonderful geographic shape window.

Robin, it is fun to see what you can sketch around your sink…so many items. Yay!

Here is my other sketch from the trip to Burano. One hour is so different in color from another. This one apparently couldn’t decide on one color. I don’t have the list nearby and I don’t think it fits any of the items.

Robin, I love your style. There is a feeling it creates. A warmth. Not sure how to say this right…it looks real; not photorealistic but real.

Joan, how about outdoor, artificial or free space. Wonder what the neighbors think of that paint job? Fun digi, it looks like markers.

Ai, Joe, Jade, Jo, Ned and friends. 👋🏽👋🏽👋🏽

Keep sketching and learning

Joan: I ditto Fletch, the Burano sketch can fit "outdoor" perfectly. Great digi of a cookie box.
All: Hello.

Pine Cone, I agree with Fletch. Your rock wall is so good. I like your style.

Ai, wow, good find for geometrical, love that scene with the sails!

Hi, Jade.

Joan, too bad about the pigeons. We have a "grackle" problem here. Somehow the grocery stores and Walmart have found some sort of "sound" waves to keep them away. It was sooo bad they were loosing customers. Wish I could be there to join you for some good seafood. What a fun find of the colorful house in Burano. It fits right in.... I love the door and shutters. Your cookies make me hungry, pistachio no less, and I just brushed my teeth for the night. Argh.....

Robin, what a fun sketch with your items in the window and the sink. Love it. And always your hatching.

Joe1lt, looking forward to your sketch and hi there.

Hi all the rest.....

I thought I had posted my first two sketches but evidently I put them just on my blog. So excuse me if this is a duplicate, I don't see them here.

Jade, Gracie!

Fletch, some of the Burano houses are a little creative like this one.

Jo, the pigeons used to be just spa problem in St Mark’s Square because people fed them. That was banned and niw they are everywhere. The swoop thru the narrow streets and literally just barely miss your head. Been looking for a pumpkin here that is not in the middle of a crowded veggie market, I like yours and the cute chicken on the box. Sometimes I feel like I’m surrounded by those bottles.

Hi - thank you all for the encouraging comments

Joan- that wall with door and green upstair shutters is inviting....relaxing surprise with minimal detail and big blocks of texture and color.. I love the photo of the store front covered with small paintings. I have a tool shed I'm wanting to noodle around on with some old paints....this is good encouragement.

Fletch - soft egg .....looks like you spent alot of time on it....the light and shadow and texture very interesting/atmospheric... that you were able to portray the edge of the table....impressive...ahhh, a second study with egg.....solid, the angle is challenging....that is thought provoking....like the egg is more confrontational??? if that is possible....of course these thoughts must be thru comparison....thanks ...see thru qualitey on bottle is great. I like the cork alot.

Ned - majestic and powerful landscapes....I envy your resourse.....thanks for the photos

Ai - WOW WEE!!!! that study hall sketch is so awesome!!!! They all are separate but overlaping and the intense concentration is so thick!!!! AWESOME....gonna slide that one to desktop for inspiration!!

Jade - cute bats....I heard a podcast the other day about a woman in texas saving bats in cold weather .....she said what she liked about them is their faces are cute. She also said they were very social wth twitters and such

Pinecone- nice pencil of wall and windows....lots of detail and clear depiction

JoC - Love the chick toy, pumpkin and bottles....bottles are real looking ...are you going to cook the pumpkin? Glad you got to sketching. Hug to you both.

Joe1- Hi glad to see you dropping in!

4 - “sky” - pyramid cloud

— non-virtual sketch
— sketched in my mobile studio
— freehand

— Pentel mechanical pencil (0.5)
— graphite pencils 6B, HB, 3H
— pocket sketchbook by Daler Rowney (from WalMart)
— (3.5” x 5.5”) (89mm x 140mm)

— My Re-Learning to Draw Program - review Phase 2 (single objects or small scenes)

I was stopping for something else when I saw this bizarre little cloud, and hurried to sketch it, there in my mobile studio. It was actually more pointed than this. A nearly perfect pyramid, up in the sky, who knew !!! ☁️

There were large clouds to the left, and more behind and below. This lovely cloud joined them very quickly 💨 but I’m grateful for homelessness and Joan’s inspiring “mobile studio” sketching that made it possible for me to quickly sketch this moment 😂

Edit to add: I was trying to do this as another experiment inspired by Fletch’s experiments using tone, and it was fun and exciting to rush to sketch it 🙏😅

Thanks everyone.
Joan, the building clothed in colors and fun pictures is a delight to see, thanks. We visited a section of Buenos Aires that had colored buildings all shades. It was when I started my little house collection, they sold carved housed on the street. An old sketch and photo from 2009. Photos weren't that good. I think I used a point and shoot camera. I'm rarely happy with birds. Ha.

My old red, white and blue kitchen. Gene painted the wood paneling for me.

Pine Cone I like the cloud. It looks like a mountain. I've taken photos where the clouds look like mountains. Makes me smile. Thanks.

I sketched while Gene was in PT in the Ohuhu sketchbook with an Ohuhu pen .5 and watercolor. It was a great day so sat in the comfort of the mobile studio with the windows open. I planned on sketching the red umbrella but it had collapsed in the wind during the nice 2 or so inches of much needed rain we had over the weekend.
