Scavenger Hunt from Life #170: Sep 11 - Sep 23

Ned, yikes!!! I hope you stayed far enough away from the poison oak! Nice sketch of it.

Ai, thanks. I'm not sure how they are going to display these sculptures at the show, so I made sure that the tic-tac box could be viewed from every side. I even painted the bottom...just in case. lol The problem is that the box is so tall it doesn't stand up too steadily and they will be outside at the show.

Hi everyone and thanks for the List Jo.
These sketches were done in my Moleskin Horizontal Sketchbook. Not the easiest to photograph!
1 - Portobello Mushrooms
2. Double - Bananas ( there's actually a third hidden in the middle)
3. Red - 3 tomatoes

Joan - Great idea with the Tic Tac box! Its looking terrific. Would have been lots of fun to do.
Ai - Love your OP fruit & veges drawing!
Hi Jo, Robin,
Ned - Poison Oak, Yikes!
Pine Cone - Nicely sketched plant. Glad things are working out better for you now.
Jade - Awww, such a sweet little kitten!

Supposed to be Spring here but we have Gales, Thunder, Lightening and Hail! So I think weve gone back to Winter!

Pine Cone, love your double plant. Lovely graceful lines.

Joan, love the photos of the working artists. Fun tuna! Your tic tac box is so well done. Congrats.

Robin, hey there!

Ned, so good to see you! Your allergy poison oak makes me itch! The red leaves are so pretty. We have poison ivy in the yard. I need to get it taken care of.

Jade, clever for allergy, cutie!

Ai, hello.

Vivien, ummmm, the mushrooms are great. The bananas I can smell and I really like red, so the tomatoes are my favorite part of your sketches. Hope you didn't get hail damage.

Had electrician come today. Fixed the light in the laundry room. We can see the dirty clothes now. Ha. Maybe sketch one of these days. You guys are doing super!

Jo - The hail ripped into my beautiful array of daffodils which were flowering at their best this Spring! Best flowering they've ever been since we bought this house and moved in, then planted them 7 years ago. Such is the weather now!

Vivien, thanks. I have a new appreciation for artists who work large. ;) Great job on the mushrooms, bananas, and tomatoes in your sketchbook. I love the details on the mushrooms. Hope you stormy weather is finished. Sorry your gaffs got hammered.

Jo, thank you. Glad you got the light repaired. Doing laundry in the dark doesn't make it any easier. lol

Jade and Ai, hi!

Heading into NYC today with my friend to sketch with the group there. Our chauffeur is driving us in, so it should be a fairly comfy trip. My back seems to be a lot better too! See you all later.

Ned - oh, a little teaser.....that would have been a nice moment....you were prepared though.....that's good The poison ivy looks evil.....but you looked at it as something worth sketching, it probably felt a new feeling as you drew it's form.......

Jade - sweet kitty sketch. Just so happens I landed two 3week old abandoned kitts and one of them looks quite like this one here....

Joan - oh great job on the box of tictac... like the texture makes it look like it is breathing...interesting...it is wonderful how you stretched yourself during this project. Happy sketching today!!

Vivien - lovely sketches....the mushrooms are my favorite...great job on the gills and their brownish grey color and lines....perfect...I feel like I can feel their texture

JoC---Heheheh- I think seeing dirty clothes is much better than smelling them.

Robin - glad you liked the kitten pic and look forward to hearing (seeing 🫣?) more of your new little pair of fluffs! 🐾

Vivien - I loved your sketch, all of it was fab but i particularly liked the mushrooms 🍄 too.. delicately done. 👌

Joan - hope your trip to the big apple was good! 🍏 And that your back is doing ok. We went to NY on our honeymoon, my only time in North America so far. Enjoyable despite my not liking crowds! 🤦‍♀️

Hi, everyone else 👋👋

Robin, thanks so much!

Jade, in NYC is hard if you don't like crowds, but you can find some quieter areas. Thanks for asking...my back is feeling a lot better...not as achy.

Here are my sketches from NYC today. We were in the Southtreet Seaport area today.
2 - solid bridge - watercolors and ink

3 - red ship - watercolors and ink
4 - white lettering (It spells out Ambrose, the name of the ship.)

Joan: Wonderful Southstreet bridge scene and the super Ambrose vessel. Your shadows and details, and colors, and everything ...lol... in the ship are superb. Excellent !!!

All: Hi... I was slow doing nothing on my weekend. When I was reaching out at my OP set; I felt tired. So I went to bed.

Ai, thanks. The Ambrose didn't have as much character as your boats, but it was different from what we have around here. I still have to put in some of the rigging. Your containers look good...nice variation in the shading on the colors of the containers. What are the little characters you posted first? Not having kids around, I'm not familiar with some things.

Ned, thank you. It was nice to be back in the city and have some different views. I like your butter dish. I haven't started on things I can find at home yet. Doing too much cleaning and organizing.

Joan: Thanks so much...The walkie talkies were meant to be a zebra and a giraffe...lol. The toy designer had done them that simplify way...that got me too, the first time I saw them.

Ai - The colors on eggplant and pepper are great but I keep looking at the shape and shading on the mortar. Walkie talkies are cute and well done. Super work on the bottles! 👍🏽

Joan - The super sized Tic Tac is terrific. Great idea. Love the Tuna! Also noted how intense everyone looks. They are all totally focused. Funny on your Southstreet picture. We were watching an old movie called The Hangover and when I first looked at your picture my mind read drunks in the park.😎 Super job on the ship especially the rigging.

Pine Cone -that is trail a great sketch. You captured the essence of it even unfinished. You do not appear to have lost mush other than confide.

Jade - super fur!! So soft and believable.👌🏽

Ned - Hope that was a zoom lens. I often share the work posted here with my wife, but will not share your art or ref as Sharon literally gets poison ivy just looking at it. Nice work on the butter dish.

Vivien - Am with the crowd, there is something about the mushroom that just draws me to it. All 3 are great. Love your shading especially the bananas.

Last Hunt Jeanne was mentioned, I have not heard from her lately but we text sporadically and always around the Holidays as we swap cards and always text comments. She periodically sends updates on how she is doing but it has been a while.

#1 Red - dusted off watercolors which I have had out but not touched in a while and paraphrasing Pine Cone I seem to have lost what little wc skills I had developed. In a Strathmore Visual Journal (5.5x8 in) that is labeled for watercolor but only 90lb paper which accounts for ‘pilling’.

Keep sketching and learning …and relearning

Ai, now that you mention it they are a zebra and a giraffe (without a long neck). Cute anyway!

Fletch, thanks. I left out some of the rigging on the ship, so I added it on my copy...it looked too bare.

Arts on Terry is over. Our group project was really a big hit with the people attending. People kept coming over and taking photos of the items. Here are the completed sculptures with their respective artists.
