Scavenger Hunt from Life #156: Apr 12 - Apr 20

#7 inspires ... Celebration of Thai New Year called Songkran festival at our major national temple, calledvWat-Pho... In our ancient tradition, everyone tried to bring new sand to the temple ground thru making merit small sand pagodas, decorated with colorful flags. Though in modern era, all temples have cemented up their ground, they do not need new sand anymore but Wat-Pho still kept this tradition for us to celebrate.

Ai, thanks for sharing so much about your culture through your sketches. That sketch of the children making the sand pagodas is so sweet. I'm glad that the tradition continues even in these more modern times. You captured the movements of the dancers nicely.

Joan: Thanks so much. I am very glad that I got to go out sketching there today. Can you believe, I just know about this event today ?? ... despite I have lived in Bangkok all my life...lol.

Joan - Love that beach house. Know Wadding River is on the North shore but your picture brought back memories of the old clapboard beach houses they use to have along the beaches Far Rockaway and Arverne. My oldest sister’s in-laws owned a huge 3 story house there that was all small apartments they rented out during the summer. It was a half block from the beach. Thanks for the memory. Most of those places were being torn down for ‘progress’ back in the 50s.

Ai - it is great that a way was found to continue tradition. The dancers look so graceful. Want to echo Joan how much we appshrung your culture through your art with us.

Hi everyone. Wow busy here!

Ai, green waffles. Clever zig zag. Do the waffles have green fruit for color? Lovely cafe sketch and Happy New Year!

Fletch, love your jug of syrup. Great shading and highlights. I have never had "real" maple syrup, only the store brands and homemade with maple flavoring which probably isn't real maple.

Joan, your free space is excellent Fun houses and hills.

I sketched quickly on the porch this morning. Gene was restless, I offered the neck pillow again but he wanted in so....
Number 1 trees - the row of pines across the path. Micron 03 in the Conda Sketchpad.

Fletch and Jo: Thank you.

Jo: Lovely ink-sketch of the trees. Very nice textures in foreground grass and the tree and the background bushes.

Jo - Nice line work. I always scribble or scumble foliage. Not sure how or where to even start using lines.

Found a bird in house I don’t remember ever drawing. Will give it a go tomorrow.

Joan, I like the wading river house with the hills. Oops, I think I said that.

Ai, I missed the temple sketches. So fresh and full of life. The children and dancers have movement. Just lovely.

Fletch, looking forward to the birdhouse. Thanks.

Thank you ALL for inspiring with your colors, shadings, historic antidotes, and adventurous pursuit of art from and in the midst of your busy lives! Thank You SO much.

Jo, seems a I dropped a definite article that changed the meaning of my sentence.
Correction: Found a bird in the house I don’t remember ever drawing. (The bird is in a nest not a house.)

Jo: BTW, the green waffle is green by using the juice of the mashed leaves of this plant ... Pandan...

Robin: Thanks... Fun colorful still-life painting.
