Enjoyed the apparently Creative Mark plein air wooden frames from Jerry's Artarama. Problem is the expense, but beyond that I have trouble locating any remotely affordable 10x20" versions of a 2.5-3.5" wide wooden plein air style frame.
Anybody know of one?
Thanks.

3" wide, 10x20 - $26. including shipping. Made of polystyrene.

I have ten 16x 20 gold decorative frames made of wood I bought for $6. a piece on clearance from Hobby Lobby -- years ago.
I'm not a fan of decorative frames and even less when they're gold. But I mixed a dark green/brown color with acrylic paint and coated the whole frame with it. Then before it was dry I wiped out the high areas so they remained gold and the low areas the green/brown.
You could do something similar with this to tone it down in the color/colors of you choice.

That’s a nice way to tone down the gold, Bongo. I’ve used black mineral paint intended for furniture refinishing to be able to use those gold frames. Sometimes it looks good to leave a little gold accent and sometimes it’s best to cover it all up. It’s nice to have the option.

Bongo, thanks, but I should have specified real wood frames. I don't like the plastic nor foam products for framing.

You might try Frame USA: https://www.frameusa.com/. Their prices are good generally, and - even better for oil painters - they offer the option of purchasing frames without glass and backing, which lowers the price. The selection is pretty good with a range of styles and prices. There were a couple of quality issues, but they sent a replacement quickly.

I don't like to spend a lot on frames because in my experience, buyers often want a different style or color and replace the frame anyway.

Oh, I definitely agree. Unfortunately, no way to show in an exhibit nor in a gallery without some "decent" framing in order to attract the buyer. I would much prefer if folks bought off the image on my website or in a plastic sleeve, but those options aren't available in my situation. And pastels require some form of glazing, best under expensive forms of white glass. Merde!

Yes, all that's true. But just to clarify, FrameUSA's frames typically come with glass and I think there may be type of glass options too. I think you could probably find a nice looking frame - with glass - at a reasonable price there. Best wishes.

edit: Here's an example:

10" x 20" Black Picture Frame in Wid
Black picture frame.png

$45.67 (Note: I think a 10x20 may be a little more expensive because it's not a typical size; there may be other less expensive frames as well. This was one I found with a quick perusal of the offerings)

Frame will come with a standard pure white (B403) mat. For info on mats, click here.
Frames will come with cardboard, a screw in sawtooth hanger for wall framing, and styrene. (If it's an issue think you can request other options, or omit the sawtooth hanger, as galleries/exhibits often do not accept them. However, plein air events may accept them.)

Yes, I did re-examine their options and they do have some good prices for what I need. Thanks.
