Photographing art

i have some mobility issues, so putzing around trying to find perfect place for a photo is not an option for me. instead, i have an Epson printer/scanner with a 11 x 17" bed that does an ok job for any size work that i typically do these days. i'll tweak any color/contrast issues in image software (GIMP).

a tip that works with a camera or a scan... include something very black and very white (eg sheets of paper) behind your artwork and include it in your shot. it helps the camera/scanner find the correct white balance, at least most of the time. then, if the color is correct (i.e. you don't have to tweak it with software), just crop the black and white paper (or whatever) out of your shot. :)
