Paint Tools

I love hearing from other artists what use as tools of their trade. This is my paint table and setup.

That looks absolutely fantastic. A dream setup really. I typically paint sitting on the floor or out in the garden. I use a couple of plywood boards which fit 1/4 sheet paper. I've started to wet the backside of the paper before I attach it with clips to the board. It helps with keeping the paper flat and it extends the drying time a bit.
I have a very nice brass palette with space for 16 colours. But sometimes when I'm out and about I use a smaller tin. With just 6 colours.
Right now it's. Aureolin yellow, Ruby Red, Cobalt Turquoise, Burn Sienna, Burnt Umber and Indigo.
I paint with round brushes. Squirrel mops or Sable.
I'm thinking about getting a flat brush for lifting (which I would like to try more)

Our weather has been terrible this year. Too much rain. I'll be lucky if any of my irises bloom. I usually work from pictures. Hopefully the peonies will bloom. The glass top lifts so you can put the photo under and mix the color on the glass. It also allows for placing a wet sheet of paper. I, like you, prefer round either sable or squirrel brushes. I probably have way too many paint colors.

Thank you for your comment. The drawer makes it easy to arrange. It slides out both sides. I keep the earth tones in the other side. Keeps them safe which is a plus considering how expensive everything is now.

The table really helps me stay organized. I looked to see if they still offer it, but it's not made anymore. In fact a lot of the tools I use aren't available anymore. I guess that makes me really old. I have been creating art for over 70 years. Art supplies were the only thing on my Santa's list. I still have my Jon Gnagy Learn to Draw books.

Wow, that is some setup! I would feel like a kid in a toy store if I walked into something like that. I only have a drafting table and keep paint tubes in my desk drawer.

My setup is the exact opposite of yours. The largest I work is 8"x10" so I don't need a lot of space. I like to paint on a level surface. I keep all of my setup on a piece of gatorboard that I store on a shelf. When I am ready to paint, I move the gatorboard to the dining room table and I am ready to go.

Here is a picture of my setup when I am working with watercolor:

Since I took these pictures, I have been using a 12 color set of Inktense pencils instead of the watercolors but everything else is the same.

The little black stand in the upper left of the board holds my cell phone which I use for reference pictures. Sometimes I use my laptop instead for reference.

I used a drafting table for years. Sometimes I miss it, especially for drawings.

You are getting amazing results from the Inktense pencils. I bought some a while back but couldn't achieve anything like you are getting. I'll have to get them another try.
