11 x 14 inches .. acrylic on paper .. alla prima .. painted Jan 13/26

Wow you are busy, how do you churn them out so fast? And I love this one, I really like your "alla prima" style as you call it. You say it's painted on paper, what sort of paper are you using? I'd like to give alla prima painting a try

Thank you Liz.
Alla Prima by Richard Schmid was the book that got me interested. Of course that was 30 years ago and believe it or not I have advanced from infant stage. I have added painterly to the my style as that helps with speed. It’s all about getting it down as quickly and efficiently as possible. I paint on oil and acrylic pad by Canson XL. Buckles a bit with acrylics but works wonders with oil. I don’t use oil anymore and I can put up with the slight buckle as you can weight the paper once dry and it straightens. As an exercise I used to take pictures from mags and see if I could quickly emulate the mood painting over them. Always check my speed. Now I’m not so concerned about speed as I know my average and it’s between one and two hours mostly. You have a good eye so I would be surprised if you didn’t get into it.

I’ve slowed. I fell in December and still not 100%. Age heals slowly. Before that I did 150 in 150 days. All 9 x 12 or 11 x 14

I just did a search for the book and it's over $100 !! I would like to get it though....some day...maybe.

Looking forward to seeing more of your paintings, I like your landscapes

40.00 Canadian here. They go up and up. 18.00 a few years ago. That’s 11 x14

But you don’t need paper. Panels, stretched canvas, etc. many supports.

Wonderful woodsy textures in this beauty, Wayne! I could get lost in it. I’m sorry you’re still feeling the effects of your fall but as a fellow oldster I know we just take longer to heal. I would like to try that oil paper too. Putting coats of gesso over watercolor paper works for now since I don’t have much use for it otherwise.

Thanks Donna. I’m coming along and getting into he landscapes. Finding new ways to get a mess going and the pull from it.
They come in different sizes with used to be 24 sheets per book.

I was referring to the "Alla Prima" book by Richard Schmid. It's expensive, Amazon is selling it for $95 and over $900 for a set of his books.

Nicely done. The little green tree stands out just enough from the dense forest and the snow looks like it was over weeds and grasses. ❤️

Yea that has always been an expensive book. Check your library, you may be able to get it on loan.
Forgot to mention, our libraries will get the book for you if it’s in the system. Anywhere in country. You can ask.
