more good FreeCAD News - On the Way to v1.1: Feature Freeze and Release Status

dear Community, dear Friends hello.

the development on FreeCAD goes on ... now things go very fast. Alexander published on the developer-blog: (see lnk below:

The main development branch has been in a hard freeze since Monday – no new features will be added, only bug fixes. There is no set release date yet; the version will be released as soon as all release blockers have been removed.


For comparison: For version 1.0, the feature freeze began in June 2024 with approximately 40 blockers, and the final version was released in November of the same year.
The duration may be different for 1.1.

The next milestone is September 30th: this is the last day that changes affecting the user interface or translatable UI text can be merged. After that, these changes are also considered locked.

Thank you for another good post with software news. My CAD needs are quite basic, mainly the design of mechanical parts like connectors for my concrete sculptures, so I don't need a full-blown CAD application. I find that Rhino 3D version 8 running in Windows 11 provides me with all the parametric CAD functionality I need, along with the 3D sculptural modelling I do in the same program.

The reason I am responding to your post is that I have a question for you that is somewhat CAD related: do you know of any freeware applications that can do Topology Optimization? I would like to use topology optimization as part of my sculpture work flow.

No - at the moment i am not aware of something in the filed of Topology Optimization.
I am afraid - not.
