Ink and Inktense wash on 8"x10" Arches hot press. I haven't worked on hot press in quite a while so I thought I would give it a try with a piece I had left over. I think I prefer the cold press or my sketchbook given a choice.

This will be submitted into our local Shad Fest on a poster that will be auctioned off to benefit local art student scholarships. The Watercolor Society that I belong to contributes to this each year. It's lots of fun.

The title will be: WHERE ARE THE SHAD!!!

Great expression!! Kitty wants his shad!

Lovely coloring, Anne. I would imagine the hot press paper would be more demanding than cold - I'm familiar with that paper and its total lack of texture. It can be great in some instances, but can sometimes be challenging.

Regardless - this is a fun piece.

Came out great! It reminds me of why I'm not a cat person. I feel that is the way they see me. Ha. Love it!

Lol I have seen Maine coons with that look but they are actually sweethearts. People are gonna love it. The cat lovers will be out in force, loving this one.✅😁
I worked on hot press once and I got fairly far along. It was great for details. I was not doing washes or anything like that. It was all going great and then all of a sudden, I developed a flaw on the paper perhaps? Anyways, it quickly turned into a hole. It wasn’t even an area that was overworked. So I don’t know if that’s just something you have to be super careful about with hot press or a flaw in the paper. But your style works very well with hot press paper. Looks great.

Interesting experience with the hot press. I found that even though it is rated as a weight of 140, it is thinner than a cold press 140 and doesn't feel as strong. It sounds like a good idea to treat it gently.
