This is a 14 cms x 22 cms ink and wash sketch, started on location during Chennai Weekend Artists’ event # 514 at Marundeeswara Temple three days ago and completed later at home. I went to an on location sketching event after quite some time and I was dying to try out some of the quick sketching techniques that I have been practising. This was the first of four ink sketches that I made during the two hours long event. The spot from which I sketched this view was not convenient for adding the colour washes, and therefore I moved away to start my second ink sketch.
When it came to adding colour to this sketch, I took much longer to do it, than I would want to at one of these outdoor sketching events, and also, ended up unconsciously covering up some of my squiggly ink lines. But I corrected that approach in the other three sketches.
By the way...Marundeeswarar means god/lord of healing, koil means temple, and gopuram means tower.
