I love to sketch on location with pen and ink. But my lines are no longer steady and I have also slowed down very much. As a result, it takes me a very long time to build up tones through cross hatching, the way I like to do it. I am therefore trying out this method of a few squiggly lines and some colour washes to see if I can make it work for me while sketching on the go. The sketch is approximately 14 cms x 10 cms and I have used an image that I saw on Pinterest for this trial.

That’s very nice! I think you have found a way that works very well for you - and you might decide you like this method better someday.

Wayne, Donna & Jade...Thank you 🙏. I too am happy with the result, but I have to check whether I can do this consistently

Thank you Sanlynn. I certainly want to do many more in this style so that using it becomes instinctive. Unfortunately I have entered a busy spell at work and therefore I am not able to sketch and paint as often as I would like to.

Very nice - I love seeing what you have done and have a lot to "catch up on" with the forum.

Thank you Joy.
I thought of trying this outdoors last week, but chickened out at the last minute. I think I need to practise this a bit more before I try to do it on location.
