I don't see why colored pencil art should be any less respected than graphite pencil drawings, drawings with Conté, pastel, etc...

My own works are mixed media paintings/drawings that employ pastel, acrylic, gold leaf, as well as colored pencil. I usually begin my works drawing with Conté and colored pencil:
