Hi everyone,

I’m thrilled to join this forum! I’m writing from Newport, Rhode Island, a place rich in culture and history. I work with William Vareika Fine Arts Ltd., a gallery that specializes in 19th and early 20th-century American art.

I’d love to start a discussion about art history, particularly the significance of American landscapes, marine art, and the historical themes that shaped the art world during that period. Newport, being home to historic mansions and cultural landmarks, serves as a constant inspiration for me.

Have you explored the art history of Newport or other coastal regions? What are your favorite movements or artists from the 19th and early 20th centuries? Let’s share our knowledge and ideas!

Looking forward to connecting with fellow art enthusiasts!

Welcome, varry! I don’t know anything about the Newport area but I’d be happy to learn about its art history.

Welcome to the forums, varry. Make yourself at home and just join right in.

I don't have knowledge of the Newport area unfortunately, but there is one group of artists from the late 19th century into the early 20th century that I've always been fond of, which is the The Nabis. Edouard Vuillard in particular is one of my favorite painters of all time. This group of artists were French, though, so not American. I wish I had more knowledge of American art during that time frame! But like Donna said, always happy to learn more. :)

The sharing of knowledge is one of my passions, so welcome varry. I am looking forward to learning from you.
