Flowers On A Table

One to two hours. I paint wet in wet so sometimes I scrape and repaint or simply keep adding color till it takes the shape I like.

pale rider ...

One to two hours ... it takes me that long to mix the color I want. Pale Rider is a soothing piece, Wayne; such color harmony with the background and foliage sharing the same soft blue-greens.

I use whatever …photos, life, imagination. Manipulated photos included. For example, I may paint from life and then manipulate the photo of the painting to use as reference. Once I have my approximate values I don’t much care for the reference as I like to let the painting take the lead by observing how things look on the painting. When I like what I see, it is done. I like to suggest rather than copy.

Thanks Donna. The harmonies made me do it.

Wayne, these are lovely! I enjoy looking at your flowers, color combinations and esp. greys. Do you use cobalt blue to mix greys?

Do you use cobalt blue to mix greys?

Thank you Grapes.
I don't really rely on formulas as I paint by feel. Some days I make 5 values of grey from lamp black and titanium white and I make colors in them or some days I scrape my palette and make greys that way. I usually try to use my last paint in the next paint and to do that I change my colors. I sometimes us that grey as a mother load and put it in each of my tube colors on the palette saving a little of the purity for the final touches. Sometimes I scrape my painting 4 or 5 times before I am happy with it and the scrapings make multiple greys one could not imagine. Ultramarine Blue and Burnt Umber make some nice ones as well as Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Blue.
