First oil pastel for years

Still to work out what to sharpen, and strengthen, and recede a bit more. Nearly done,

it's very textured, with a few very smooth sections. Looks much better from a distance. A3 size.

If they didn't need framing under glass, I do more of them.

I really like your dynamic composition and colours. Is it possible to mix in something like fine sand with oil pastels to get rough textures? What you say about the need for framing has put me off using the medium as well. My ideal would be to find oil pastels that set and dry like oil paints. It may be worth trying to develop such a product!

Thanks. I've been working on it a bit more. Realised I was missing my curves and sweeps. And added a few geometric shapes for balance.

To get the texture, I used cheap crayons and pastels when I worked out the initial concept. Then I used my good pastels on some sections only. And I did melt some cheap pastel to create blobs and texture. They set harder than I imagined they would. Not sure if do another textured one.

As far as I know, oil pastel will never truly dry, so it's practical to protect them from dust. More experienced oil pastelists may have better info.
