The problem of waste paint and how to get rid of it in an enviromentally friendly way has long been a discussion point:)
I've read and tried most of the various suggestions over the years and was never fully happy with any method. My palettes are
cheap glass ones that last for years and I've always soaked them, not a great method. Anyway what has been revelatory is using a metal hob scraper,
the paint comes off in sheets ready to be thrown into the recycling bin or used as a skin for that matter leaving the glass perfect for the next paint.
I use acrylics btw.

I use glass and acrylic. I wipe the palette with water: not trying to remove the paint but applying a layer of water over the paint. I wait a minute or two and then with my palette knife the paint lifts off quite easily in small sheets to be put into a paper towel and then into a waste bin. Here they take left over house paint in a can as long as it's dried and that goes to the waste site so paint on a paper towel goes to the waste site.

That’s interesting laf and thanks for sharing. I haven’t used a glass palette for acrylics yet but I might have to try it. I soak my plastic covered foam board with water and use a plastic scraper to remove the paint. It’s not the best system but it’s what I have. I don’t always use dryer sheets for laundry but when they’ve been used up they work well to get off stubborn bits of paint without scratching.
