Festival Day at the Temple

Icarry a very tiny watercolour palette in my work bag and some water brushes. A couple of days ago, a short while before I was to leave for home, I felt a sudden urge to sketch / paint something. I managed to do this with an image on my phone as reference. It is a 5″ x 4″ black ink gel pen sketch with watercolour washes, on elephant dung paper which my wife got me from Sri Lanka.

Fabulous! The scale of the people is excellent. The variety of the red in the roof is very convincing. This would take me hours. You really have the talent to sketch quickly and well.

I think more than skill or talent, it helps to have the confidence to just do it, and to keep doing it. I had this confidence when it came to pen and ink. But for years, I was very diffident about wielding a brush.
