This is an approximately 14 cms x 18 cms line and wash sketch. The paper proved to be too thin for what I had in mind. I therefore had to improvise as I went along and salvage something. But, I am proud of not having given up.

Balaji, one feels like a quiet observer to a serene moment. It has a lovely, fresh quality. Since I use (too) much water, I know all about salvaging pieces on poor quality paper! This does not look "salvaged" at all. Wonderful posture on the figure.

This query is unrelated to your art. I have studied different languages and strive for correct pronunciation. Would you be so kind as to show how your name is pronounce. I don't want to "mispronounce" it, even though I am not saying it aloud. That is, when I read you posts, I want to have the correct pronunciation "in my head", if that makes any sense,

I used a photograph in a newspaper article as my reference. The photograph was about nature and the figure in it was a small one taking up an insignificant portion of the photograph. So, in a sense, perhaps the photographer captured a serene moment without quite meaning to make the photograph about the person. (I don't know if this makes sense. )

As to how my name is pronounced, thank you for asking. Let me try and explain... Balaji has three syllables.The first two are pronounced like 'baa laa' in 'baa baa black sheep'. The third syllable ispronounced jee.

• b sounds like the 'b' in bat
• aa sounds like the 'a' in car
• l sounds like the 'l' in let
• j sounds like the 'j' in jug
• ee sounds like the 'ee' in see

As Indian names go, mine is one of the easier names to pronounce
