Hi everyone.👋🏻
This CONTEMPORARY/ ABSTRACT challenge is for everyone.
This challenge will last 4 weeks.
The medium is your choice.
Be experimental if you want to. It could even be created with found objects!

Well, the seasons are changing. A hard winter is on the way out, and Spring is on the way in here in Canada.
We also have had a change and new beginning here at Creative Spark.
So this theme has been on my mind…
Change/New Beginnings
Please use that as a theme or a jumping off point to get into your contemporary / abstract piece.
We love to see people trying for the first time. Don’t be intimidated. And for those who have a little more experience, please give it a go!
This is where we have fun.
I hope you will all join me. I would absolutely love to see what you come up with, however you choose to interpret and express this theme.
Let’s have fun!🙂
~ Christine

What a lovely painting Enyaw! I can’t believe you put that together so quickly.
The only thing is, and I hate to tell you this after such a lovely painting, is I think everyone has not realized this is the abstract/contemporary challenge forum.
Enyaw, I know it’s not your thing, but the challenge is still for change /new beginnings. A perfect time to try that in something abstract? There are a lot of styles for abstract art if you want to look them up. They are in the description of the abstract challenge category. I think it could be a fun challenge for you!🙂🙂

I'm back .. here is a new beginning from a landscape to a broken mirror ... 11 x 14 inches .. acrylic on paper .. alla prima .. painted 30/03/26

Oh my gosh, you are back! AND KICKING IT! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Love your piece!
Fantastic. It’s really dynamic. It kind of reminds me of that explosion of life.
Getting to work on mine.
You’ve kicked this challenge off with a bang!

Thank you Christine.
Now that I have learned to paint better than when I thought I would try the idea on the abstract. There are some real good abstracts in a few of the petals and there is an explosion of life in the star of the dance (expressed in the abstract of course) . The lines themselves are not static as they involve quite a few different planes though the are flat painted. I wasn't sold on it but now that I've had time away from the paining session I like what I see.

OK, this is two versions of a digital art piece taken from my original abstract art. I made it into tiles that I alternated vertically and horizontally. I layered different colours over some areas. Deepened some colours of the tiles. I added slight curves/rays of light and highlights. I created a lot of versions and then combined and took away aspects and added aspects. I added stains in shapes like the column. Then I added a red, orange, wavy, thin line at the center.
That is version 1.
Version 2 is a more colour with magenta-red and turquoise.
I think both are dynamic. It reminds me of life.
I hope you like them.

Well, I don’t understand abstract in some sense as I like the look of rust and peeling paint as a form of abstraction. I do like the floating lights and the blue yellow in the first. Glad you joined me and are getting into digital rather than sitting on your hands.

Thank you very much. I appreciate that. I have to say I really wanted to get in there with my hands though! Lol. It felt like I was doing a collage with my own work, but I couldn’t quite manipulate it by command as I wanted. I would’ve rather had it in front of me putting it together. But I am using what I’ve got. I will say about AI that it is cool when it works. Fast glimpses of options you can take. But it is no substitution for humans. If I had the set up for
Procreate or something like that, I think I would be off to the races!
Abstract is very fun to get into. But it took me years before I did. It was more of a dare /push from my husband. The idea of expressing myself away from the usual realism, where marks can leave an impression without being something specific.. Or the characteristics of the medium, the thick paint, the colour becomes the focus, and imagination can really take flight, is just really appealing. I really like how it forces me to think differently about a subject or non-subject.
Thank you for taking the leap with me.
If you look up abstract styles, you’ll see many different approaches.

AI is very informative but sometimes communication goes off the rails. I like to question it as to why something works or doesn’t work as per gathered information. I need to steer the boat so paint by command would not work for me. Most of my best passages are accidentals.

Wayne, the shattered effect you got is so cool! It really looks like those sharp pieces are flying off into space.

Christine, Wow! I’m so impressed with your digital versions! Both of them have a sense of energy and life - especially with that glowing red line down the middle. I hope to see more like this!
