I made this 5″ x 4″ sketch with a black ink gel pen, in about twenty minutes, in May last year, and added the watercolour washes a couple of days ago. My reference was an image in a pastel rendering book that my wife was going through then. The book is no longer with her and therefore the colours in this sketch are all my choice.
This series of sketches – very quick ink sketches done over a year ago to which i am adding colour now – is a trial run for sketching in colour on location. Therefore I am limiting myself to the colours in the mini palette and the waterbrushes that I will probably be using when I go out. I am also trying to stay within about thirty minutes for the ink sketch plus addition of colour washes.
