Abstract feedback

Hey everyone, I am looking for some feedback on my art pieces. I’ve been painting for about 2 years now, I didn’t go to school or anything as far as art classes other than middle/highschool. I know that art being “good” is subjective but I just want to see if I even have anything here. I’ve always had a creative mind but never really did much with it till I started this. My work is acrylic on canvas with paintbrushes or my hands. Im looking for feedback on thoughts and maybe what I can do better. Let me know what you think.

Welcome. I'm like you, create abstract art works, didn't complete any art courses at University, except a few photography units I keep forgetting about ... and a major in ceramics in my first qualification. No painting though. Because of my background I never feel comfortable commenting of works of other artists, except in very general terms. So, I like your variety, big bold strokes and outstanding white lines. Having said all that, my favourite piece is the first. I like the way you've laid it out, and there are so many interesting elements. Well done on them all.

Welcome, AZabstract. I am no expert, as I also had no formal art education. So, for what it is worth, the one that appeals most to me is this one.

Thank you so much! I first one is one of the most recent ones I’ve completed. I appreciate your kind words so much! I’m glad it speaks to you in some way. I’ve considered going to take a few classes on it to expand but sadly I don’t have the time at this moment.

I’m glad this called to you and thank you so much! I used a course medium to mix In to the paint so the whole thing is textured. This is one of the earliest things I painted, thank you so much again!

Hi AZ, Welcome to the forums. It's great that you've started painting. I don't think one needs to go to school to learn how to paint, but I do think looking at a LOT of art is very helpful. I am also self-taught. I have made a life-long study of art, but no one ever taught me how to paint.

I think you have a few pieces here that have some good composition promise.

These seem more thought out while the others feel like you were maybe just playing with paint. They don't stand out to me as distinct. However, some of them have good color themes.

Remember, everyone has different opinions, though. I'm just one dope. But me, I think if you go into a direction where the compositions were strategically placed like these, your voice would be more likely to emerge.

Thank you for sharing your work. Keep sharing it! :)

Thank you so much for the kind words and feedback! I would say you’re definitely right, a lot of mine so far are usually just playing with paint until it morphs into something. The ones you highlighted are ones that took a lot more planning and time. On my next one I’ll try and get more strategic with it and see how it ends up. I find painting to be so therapeutic I could literally do it 8-10 hours a day if I had that much time so i think planning it out could definitely help me. Thank you again so much!!!

Nice collection of paintings, AZ, and it’s good to know you’re enjoying the process. I like the blue one best too but I tend to prefer the more quiet kind of abstracts. It’s all experimenting for me and so much learning happens along the way. We all learn from each other here which is really nice!

Thank you! I’m definitely here to learn I’m glad to hear from everyone. I am very surprised the blue one is getting that much attention but I’m glad it is.

Welcome! What's important at this stage of your artistic journey is just putting stuff out. Following through on the process.

Not all of them are as compelling as some. For me the strongest are blue one, the green one you just shared above and, of the 2 with the bold white lines, the one with the solid colors is stronger.

Good stuff overall - keep up the good work!
