This is a 15 cms x 20 cms pen and ink sketch using a flex nib pen. This is a grayscale version of Chien Chung-Wei's "Outside the Louvre", a plein air watercolour that I admire very much.

Wow! The scale of the figures and line really capture your subject well. One does not need to be told about the rain, as the shiny gloss of the ground is evident. It is astounding how you mature and improve with each piece. The wee hint of structures way in the BG behind the arch really adds to the effect. You must devote a lot of time to your art daily.

Joy...I enjoy sketching (and these days painting too). For the last twenty plus years I have tried to do at least one sketch a day, but there are also weeks and months when I don't find the time to sketch at all. Previously I used to spend around 30 to 45 minutes on each sketch, and sometimes longer. But for the last ten months or so I have mainly done quick sketches (five to twenty minute gestural sketches), with less expectation from the result. This is because I am using sketches as therapy to control a shaky hand. The therapy is working and during the last few weeks I have attempted longer duration sketches and more detailed ones.
