    Abstract art and contemporary art

This was always my understanding of Contemporary. But meh...I don't want to dredge up a debate when the labels as-is probably work just fine.

    Scribbles in a Sandstorm

Wow, been a really long time since I heard about Gocco printing, you really jogged my memory on that one! I remember seeing one in school, it's basically a mini-screenprinter. This article describes it as a "self-contained compact color printing system" - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gocco...

I'm sure they would be curated a bit anyway, since I can't print the photos at full-page size and want to keep my page count (i.e. cost) down. But it's still a lot to sort through. Mostly I just want a hard copy for myself and to show friends. :)

I believed I mentioned in your illustration thread that I had exactly this complaint lodged against me by a couple of professors when I was in school. Every time I look at Manet anymore, all I can think of it this excellent essay: http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/issues/54/worth.php

Thanks, both of you! I keep meaning to put together an Apple book of the photos from this trip back in 2008, but there are about 200-300 and it's a bit overwhelming. I lost *all* the photos I took a few years ago when Apple updated from iPhotos to Photos, but luckily I had these backed up on Flickr.

what you said about storage, conserving, or the little space where you draw etc. but referring to the computer. there is something like a program for

I generally just use the library sorting features and albums in Apple Photos for my digital photos. For my own work, I pretty much just follow an organizational system I worked out in the early 00s, somewhat based on recommendations from a tech friend. Basically I archive all scans according to...

These photos were taken in 2008 and I've since lost the larger, higher quality version, but I thought it might be nice to share some photos and it made sense to group them together according to location/theme. Graffiti on Oscar Wilde's tomb in Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. Paper and paste...

Really beautiful image. I noticed there is a watermark/name in the lower right corner and was able to find the photographer, Ilze Joubert on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ilzejoubertphotography/

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When I was looking at college, I was torn between studying something like English lit and art or illustration. In my teens, I got really interested in psychology and anthropology, and in the back of my mind, I think I would have really enjoyed those fields, but they weren't in the front of my...

    Museum of Childhood (Edinburgh)

Great photos! The National Museum of Toys & Miniatures is here in Kansas City. I haven't been there in 20 years TBH, so I have no idea how the displays look now after renovations, but I remember being very impressed with their collection. I don't recall anything like those Peruvian dolls, tho!

    Ten Questions...Plus One... About Books

Alice's Adventures in Wonderful is the first book I read that sorta rewired my brain. That and its companion Through the Looking-Glass are the two books I have read probably more than any others. "Visual masterwork" is a very open-ended question. I'm inclined to think of books that are...

Haven't shared anything for a while, so here's something that came across my FB today that I really liked. The artist is Kevin Hopkins, he's one of the student artists featured in this show (which unfortunately I wasn't able to visit before the stay-home order). I recommend visiting his...

    Unpopular Art Opinions

I understand that artistic anatomy is mainly surface anatomy or musculature and bone structure. When I said it's not necessary, I meant more as a requisite for learning how to draw the human figure in an academic setting. I don't feel my work suffered from not learning that way. Maybe some of...

    WIP Collages from 2019

Thanks, all! I wish the colors in the 2nd image were accurate to the collage itself, I would be a lot more pleased with how it looks. But it's nice to have this version as a record. And the technical illustrations came out of a Dover book of wood engravings. Dover books are an excellent source...
