    Before oil pastels, I used Conte Crayons. These are hard pastels which I have in both pencils and chalks. I also have compressed charcoal and used to have fun using a limited palette of black, white, pale blue and orange. With a cat reference, I'd start by drawing the lightest and darkest areas...

    He has a lovely expression. Three-quarter profiles are often difficult. If you don't mind me saying, it seems that his nose doesn't quite line up, and maybe his far eye could be smaller. But none of this detracts from how cute he is.

    Black Magic

    Black cats are so difficult to paint, but you've managed to catch the nuances of light on his fur. Cats are almost impossible to paint in watercolour (I gave up!). How did you do the whiskers? Gel pen? Gouache?

    2 big cats

    The first one looks a bit prehistoric; love the background detail. I expect a dinosaur or sabre-toothed tiger to appear around a rock. The colours and texture of the fur depicted in the second really bring him to life, adding a magnificence to his personality.
