I find waterfalls pretty challenging but I keep trying and I think each is better than the last. Here's my latest.

Ink and Inktense in XL Mixed Media sketchbook, about 5"x5".

I generally like your choice of colours. I find them very pleasing and soothing. But, I think stronger contrasts would work for this subject and also broken lines for the water, as though the water is fighting against the obstructions in its path.

Thanks Balaji. I like your suggestions. I think next time I will try just painting the lines instead of using ink which should help also. I WILL master waterfalls!

Anne, I also like the idea of stronger contrasts. Water is very challenging, thus I have not painted it often. It looks most natural in your painting as it is spilling over at the top. Turbulent water must be very difficult to portray, as there is so much motion. Even though that is the subject, more detail or line would make it appear less organic. The royalty free images here show a lot of contrast about the water and little line in most.

I like it very much. Ann you know I love your illustrative style. I love the flow of the lines you used for the water. 🙂

Thanks Joy and Christine for the comments and encouragement. I decided to strengthen the darks and see if it is better. I think it is an improvement.

It really works Ann! 👍🏻👍🏻 I think it’s awesome you tried darker colours/more contrast just to see how it would go.Yeah!

I like the stronger contrasts too. I also like the idea of painting the lines without the ink for a waterfall. Study some pictures of waterfalls and try squinting and only painting the tones first and then building on that. Water is like clouds, it changes constantly so can be as hard to paint as you make it. :giggle: ❤️
