I've been working on a non-art project: a museum type glass display cabinet for my family's collection of original Lalique pieces. It has turned out to be a more complex construction than anticipated, but more on that in a different post. As a diversion during this endeavour, I decided to try something a bit different, instead of my usual purely abstract paintings. This is still an abstract painting, but it has its origins in real life. This painting of a nocturnal street scene in the rain is 600 x 600mm. Winsor & Newton Griffin alkyds on hardboard panel.

What a cool piece, it certainly has impact. I love the transparency of the colours.

I really like this, Hermes! If I squint at it I see buildings, cars, taillights, reflections, etc. You’ve depicted those real-life elements in a wonderfully abstract way - and the subtle texture of the background adds extra interest too.

Thank you, Donna! The elements you perceive are pretty close to what I intended, which is quite satisfying. :D

Very interesting with both the rectangular and circular shapes, but still recognizable as a street scene or cityscape. I like it. ❤️
