It's oil on canvas, 14x20 in.
Painted in Seville while a Portuguese model called Pablo is posing. One week pose, painting from life.
Pablo looks very good! I’ll bet this portrait went through a lot of stages in a week. I like the unfinished look at the bottom; it’s a painting, not a photograph.
And even if it were: early photo portraits exploited empty space around their subjects too. It is a worthy artistic device to draw attention to the main subject.

Seville is always fun to stay and very artistic old style city to paint either portraits or landscape. The most famous Old Master painters are Murillo and Velasquez both born in Seville.
