This is a quick pen and ink sketch of the temple with a black ink gel pen. The sketch is approximately 4″ x 5″ and was made in June 2024, nineteen months before I added the colour washes today.

This is not an accurate representation of the temple gopuram, which is actually wider. But, when I made this sketch I was not aiming for accuracy. I was trying to do several very quick sketches every day to overcome a specific problem. And that experiment was successful.

This is one of my favorites that you have ever done! The reflections and the detail work is wonderful. The way the composition guides the eye to the focal point is spot on. Art does not have to be a perfect copy of the subject matter, although I do not possess much creative ability in that regard. Adjusting the subject and your interpretation of it is what makes the piece unique and representative of your talent.
