This is a pen, ink, and watercolour wash sketch on 5.5" x 8.5" 250 gsm Canson Graduate cold pressed paper. It is based loosely on a newspaper photograph by Velankanni Raj.

Excellent job of portraying the wet road. The vanishing perspective, with the lighter values and less detail as the viewer gazes into the distance is quite effective. When I see photos for challenges, I immediately feel they are all to complicated and have extreme difficulty in simplifying shapes. You are able to capture the essence with just the appropriate amount of information.

Very nice Balaji. I also like the way you captured the perspective in the scene and the wet road.

I have had great difficulty with simplification because I love to sketch details too. But, over the last few years I have made a deliberate effort to simplify the pictures that I create. Some months ago I did over a hundred 10 minutes to 20 minutes sketches in a matter of five or six weeks. I did it for another reason but that exercise seems to have helped me to quickly see the essentials, discard the unnecessary, and represent what I wish to with fewer lines.

But I still have a long way to go before this becomes second nature to me..
