French authorities believe that arson may be to blame for a fire that tore through a cathedral in Nantes that dates back to the 15th century. Prosecutor Pierre Sennes said authorities are looking into the fire as a potential crime. "When we arrive at a place where a fire has taken place, when you see three separate fire outbreaks," he told reporters. One might wonder if our current "cancel culture" led by "social justice warriors" hell-bent upon rectifying the wrongs of the past by removing or destroying any cultural artifacts they find "offensive" had a role to play. The current "cancel culture"... in an irony completely lost on them... in many ways echoes Mao's totalitarian "Cultural Revolution" and the Nazi's book burnings.

Dort wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man auch am Ende Menschen.
"Where books are burned, in the end, people will also be burned."
-Heinrich Heine

Of course not... but with all the current efforts at tearing down sculpture and removing paintings from museums that offend, one must be concerned about escalations of such efforts. I say this not only out of concern for beloved works of art... but also in recognition that such acts of vandalism will frequently lead to an equal political reaction.

Oh no! Not again! Still not recovered from Notre-Dame de Paris.
