Madras Central Station

This is a quick pen and ink sketch of the Madras Central Station as it was in the 19th century, soon after it was built. The sketch is on 150 gsm paper, in a 6" x 5" sketchbook, and was done with a black ink gel pen that I use at work.

Madras Central was built in 1873. In 1996, when the city Madras was renamed as Chennai, Madras Central became Chennai Central. But recently it has been renamed as Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Railway Station. This is too much of a mouthful and I am sure that we will all continue to refer to the station as Chennai Central, while some old-timers like me sometimes still refer to it as Madras Central.

I always love your sketches. Thanks for adding a bit of information about the subject too. 🙂

Thanks for the back story on this one - interesting history! Great looking old building.

Your sketch work, as always, is a beautiful thing to behold. ❤️
