Beautiful. I thought at first it was a peonie, but the bud looks like a rosebud.

Thank you! We had bushes of these growing up and the ants always climbed all over them. They smell heavenly. It’s a peony with a skinny bud!

I loved picking peonies for cut flowers, the ants were always getting an unexpected ride while they were sucking nectar. There’s an old folk saying that peonies won’t grow without ants. While that isn’t true, ants don’t cause harm and do tend to keep other damaging insects away.
