Hello Everyone, my name is Rachel and I'm a Sculptor from South Wales ,UK. I am very much looking forward to chatting with you all about your latest creations
Thank you very much , I will tryHi Rachel, and welcome to the forums
Please make yourself at home.
Thank you very much Terri. I'm so glad you really like sculpture. It is indeed a beautiful subjectWelcome to the forum, Rachel! I find sculpture intriguing and beautiful, so I'm glad you're here to share your work with us. Keep posting and have fun!
Thank you so much, that's most kind of you . I love to work with Chavant NSP Medium Clay but for my recent work I have been using a blend of medium and hard super sculpey clay. I'm only using it because I can fire it (using Chavant would require the piece to be moulded and I'm trying to avoid that )Yay, another sculptor! There aren't too many 3D artists here, so I am excited to welcome you to our friendly circle. Looking forward to seeing your work and sharing technical details and tips with you. What is your medium of choice?
Concrete is my favourite medium. I have done quite a lot of tabletop sized concrete sculptures, as well as some slightly larger than life concrete outdoor abstract sculptures. Last year did a figure that was half abstract and half realistic. I have also used concrete in paintings in a very Art Brut manner. I used to do a lot of sculptural ceramics as well, mainly in high fired stoneware. You can see my stuff in the Sculpture and Abstract Art forums. You mention moulding — that's something I have done a fair amount of as well.Thank you so much, that's most kind of you . What medium do you use?
Thank you very much for letting me know. I will definitely check out your work. I also have background in ceramics, mainly stoneware . I used to like mould making back in those days when it was using plaster, but in not so keen on silicone moulding. I live in Wales where it rains a lot, so it's problematic.Concrete is my favourite medium. Thank you Patricia, I totally share your pain in regards to ceramic work exploding during firering . When I was a student I would panic every time my work was in the kiln! Do you have any work posted on this forum I could view?Welcome Rachel. It's wonderful to see another sculptor , there aren't many of us here !
I work in stone , clay and also wood carving. Re: clay -One of my first clay sculptures
went off with an almighty bang in the kiln and ended up in hundreds of little pieces !
Cheers,
Patricia

Hi Hermes. My sculpture was the only work in the kiln at the time and the lady who did the firing was extremely experienced and always made sure that everyones work was separated and protected from any explosions...as was her kiln !! I think most of the other sculptors [ we were not potters ] also had at least one explosion so our relations stayed happy !I have never had a piece explode in the kiln. It must be a horrible experience that does not do much for one's relations with fellow potters.
