I can't figure this one out. It reminds me of a Goya, but from your description, it doesn't seem like that's the one. Could it possibly be Picasso then?
It is a Portrait of Dr Dumouchel (1910) by Marcel Duchamp, of whom I am a big fan.
Duchamp had quite a sense of humour and had a feminine persona, or pseudonym, called Rrose Sélavy. Hence the clue "a Rrose by any other name. C'est la vie!". The black & white photo is of him dressed up as Rrose.
