Duncannon Goats

[Grapes]

Pleinair with goats in it painted last summer in Duncannon (Dún Canann), Ireland.
Oil sketch on oil paper, 20x30 cm. Plus some goat pictures.

Each time I looked for something from my bags they came quickly over to check what I was up to.
I enjoyed painting on this location and observing these goats. I had friends painting next to me. Each one of us painted different kind of paintings even though the view and the goats were the same.

What a sea view these goats have!!

They are some lucky goats and you made a great painting of them, Grapes! I like your loose brush strokes. You must have had to sketch them in quickly since they were eager to meet you.

It was a lovely place to paint pleinair and spend day in July. I wanted to jump to the water as the Duncannon beach is right down there and water was so warm but I'm glad l didn't b/c afterwards the locals said the water there is dangerous. There are two rivers bringing their waters and tide all together meeting on this coast/beach and they make the water extremely dangerous.

These are really nice and must have been very difficult to do with them moving about. I thought of you last week when i was on holiday and met a couple when snorkeling and she is Finnish. (We were talking about Scandinavian TV series on the boat between stops.) Her grandfather was born in the area of Levi ski resort in Lapland.

I was just thinking of you and if you were on the vacation travels already because I didn't see you here. Your travels went ok then? No signs of hurricanes? I saw on the news there were some recently passing by.

Not long ago I painted one pleinair on the top of Levi. I don't think I've ever posted it here so I might upload it today to pleinair sub-forum; at least l liked that pleinair. Some lovely memories from that fell.

Thanks for your comment .. I've figured when painting moving animals your brush stroke decisions need to be quick and firm but when the goats approach you again later you can check and correct forms and colors. It's so pleasant to be near them.

Thanks for your thoughts. We went on a cruise to the Southern Caribbean and snorkeled in several stops. November is still technically hurricane season, but typically there are not many problems then. There were some issues a few weeks before we left, and some choppy waters in some areas. The main problem we had was that the cruise line cancelled nearly all of my excursions due to lack of enough participants. We have had this problem before, and I usually do private trips or plan things on my own. But I had gotten the activities on a Black Friday sale a year ago at such a good price, and I thought that would simplify my plans. Instead, it caused me more hassle to try to find other activities that weren't already booked. Plus there were other problems with the room and we weren't that keen on this trip compared to others. We did enjoy the ports, though, which is why we travel.
