After a break of several weeks, when I was occupied with other jobs, I've returned to the task of finishing and installing the bird feeder. The weight ended up being close to 110 kg, so I decided to assemble it in wooden carrying frame. It was a challenge to devise a frame that was light, yet able to support the weight during the 14 km trip from my place to my daughter's house. Here are some photos taken before the left arm was attached and the holes for nuts filled in.

I protected the head with foam and cardboard and stabilized the arms with foam pads as well. A wonderful team of 4 helped to carry the sculpture in its frame to the truck and then to position it correctly on the support blocks.

We decided to install it in a secluded corner at the far end of the garden, where there are existing hanging bird feeder trays suspended from a tree. We installed concrete foundation blocks that are 200 mm thick to support the sculpture. The blocks have emebedded 8 mm stainless steel nuts that will take securing bolts that hold the feet and the right knee. There is an additional block that anchors support rods under the left side of the torso. I made a paper template to position the blocks, and we used a long spirit level to ensure that they were level.

The installation of the tray will be next. I will post some photos of the completed project as soon as it everything has been done.
