Apologies for bumping this older thread, but this came up in a suggested list the other day and was the exact episode I was mentioning.

Doctor Who did an episode about Van Gogh along those lines that was pretty interesting. Really emotional. edit: The episode title is "Vincent and the Doctor".

The big issue is when people start copyrighting AI works and then going after anyone whose style is vaguely similar. If an artist trains an AI with their work, and their work only, I still don't think it should be seen as something they "created" necessarily. Don't train an AI at all and see...

The only way for artists to get ahead of this is by passing laws that you can't copyright AI works. No AI is "born" able to create art works. They train it on other people's creations. Arguably, that is how humans learn too. The scary part is that corporations will try to copyright the AI...
