Canvas coated panels vs stretched canvas.

That would be a time saver for sure. Where are you buying the thrifty panels?

Canvas coated panels vs stretched canvas.

I have tried just about every surface imaginable but I usually only go with 2 surfaces. My favorite is ACM panels aka "Dibond" followed by tempered hardboard from Lowes. I haven't painted on a canvas surface for a long time and don't miss it one bit. The tempered hardboard from Home Depot in...

Have any of you watched Tony Allain's videos?

He has become one of my favorite instructors as well as one of my top 5 favorite pastel artists in the world. He just did a landscape demo for the Red Rock Pastel Society that is at least for now available for free on YouTube. Thanks Tony! The demo starts at about 15:04.

    Consumer Beware!

A more economical source for CA glue is from Starbond. Their CA glue is available in different thicknesses and colors. It comes with multiple applicator tips and also lasts longer in the bottle than the stuff you buy at Walmart. I usually buy it from Amazon.

    Limited Edition Photo Art Questions

Are you talking about printed photographs of your original art such as an oil painting, that you will offer for sale? Some artists sell prints of their original art at incredibly high prices. I do sell prints of my original watercolors, oils, pastels etc. but they are usually priced at a small...

    Car Body Filler

I think Bondo / body putty is basically thick epoxy with fillers in it to make it lighter and easier to work with on the car. I have seen some very old Bondo. like 50 years old an a rough looking 64 Corvette - that was exposed to the elements because the primer and top coat had flaked a way, and...

To Giclée or not Giclée....that is the question.

I guess I had notifications off back in 2023! Never saw that there were responses to this thread until today. Thanks for the comments over the last year plus!

Would you post your website here?

Did they tax you on the retail price of your work or on the cost of materials to create it? Either way, sure seems evil to me. I live in Utah - years ago artwork was exempt from sales tax. Of course they did away with that! There was also no requirement to pay "use" tax on stuff you bought tax...

What art supplies have you bought recently?

I guess frames can be considered art supplies? I bought a huge quantity of frames several years ago when they were on sale at an attractive price, in groups of ten. I still have several boxes full of ten, but I needed one last week in a size I didn't have on hand and went to the website where I...

lead white with walnut & linseed

Was that question directed to me? Not yet..... There is a method that uses acid in open topped containers along with the lead sheets in separate open topped containers, both of them inside a plastic tub with a mostly air tight lid, that creates a lovely lead oxide in a very short amount of...

A Professional Artist Spent 100 Hours Working On This Book Cover Image, Only To Be Accused Of Using AI

You were lucky! When I first starting painting professionally, we didn't have dirt, just rocks. Dirt came years later after the rocks were broken down by nature.

To Giclée or not Giclée....that is the question.

By popular demand my wife and I have decided to officially offer prints of our work, but only from an original that has sold. We have been selling quite a few prints of sold pieces lately, by word of mouth with nothing offered overtly on the web or in any galleries. The question is not whether...

What is your worst Art Disaster?

After reading Artyczar's post I feel like I have been lucky. I can't think of a single time when anything of mine was lost, stolen, damaged beyond repair or completely destroyed. I haven't shipped very many paintings though. I tend to enter shows and seek out galleries that are within driving...

    Good public domain images sources

I used to paint quite a bit from supposedly public domain images on Pixabay and would also ask working photographers if I could use a specific image of theirs to paint from, offering them a commission if it sold. I was never turned down by any photographers. One of them who is reasonably famous...

What is your worst Art Disaster?

My two worst disasters were caused by gallery people. They were both encaustic paintings on cradled birch panels with no frames around them. One of them, a tiny 5x7 inch piece, suffered a big dent on one coiner that was not repairable. It was one of my favorite paintings, so it is now in my...
