    Impressionist brushes

Thanks, but I'm really uncomfortable with those brushes. I don't know how to use them - they make me feel awkward.

    Charcoal sketching

I'm sketching using the charcoal bundle in Krita Extras. I love the Charcoal 10 Willow BlockGrainy. All the charcoal brushes have tilt recognition, which makes it fun to shade. Holding the pen vertically, they're skinny, at a slant, they're thick. Maybe I'll start a sketch notebook in my computer.

Thank you. I'm trying to learn to use those brushes.

    try coloring digitally

I'm loving the thoughts by Joe and St. Luke's Guild. That is so right, about forums having more sustained interaction. And the group activities here add to the feeling of community. For example "And the next sketch is..." which I have really enjoyed looking through. Some day, I may even...

    Impressionist brushes

This is only an 85 kb file, so doesn't show the brushstrokes. I'm trying the extra 'Impression' brushes for Krita, from their 'Extras' website. https://files.kde.org/krita/extras/Impression_2021_v3.bundle Please don't say anything nice about this latest effort. I'm still trying, still experimenting.

    try coloring digitally

I'm just getting started in digital art, so I really can't advise. But I doubt whether there is a right or wrong choice about whether to start with a physical sketch or a digital one. It's probably just personal preference. I bought a tablet just over a month ago: Ugee m708. It cost 50 USD. No...

    Snack still life

This took days, until I decided I was done, even though I could still see things I needed to do. I used the 'Smart Canvas' for oil, Krita.

Lovely, too bad it's the ants' juice bar :)

    Grayscale portrait

Ha, ha, the blotchiness is a problem in physical charcoal and graphite, too, yeah. I kept both versions and a third with background. Now I'm trying the smart canvas and wet oil brushes in Krita, and don't know when I'll ever get back to physical.

Sketching with smart canvas, wet oil

I'm in Krita 5 now, and I'm playing with the wet oil brushes. And smart canvas! You can go to https://files.kde.org/krita/extras/ and get the wet oil brushes, called RGBA wet brushes and the Smart Canvas Templates. The 'bundle' of brushes can be installed via Settings -> Manage Resource...

    Grayscale portrait

I quickly did lots of color modes. Just trying them out and I wrote a post: My blog about it Into that, I placed a screenshot of that work in Krita. It shows all the layers, with all those modes. :) What I don't like is the splotchy effect. There were tons of splotches. I liked the overlay mode...
