The Woods at Noon

I'm trying to get back to painting after my cross country move and now I have so many trees for inspiration. So many greens too! The light and shadow patterns change by the minute and I am enjoying studying them. I think I chose the square format so I wouldn't get distracted by the foreground and the sky. For better or worse I just wanted to paint a wall of trees. 16x16, oil on paper.

Thank you Grapes. I took new photos but they are the same so it must be that I softened edges a little too much. It’s not as noticeable in life but I’ll definitely be aware of it in the future.

Beautifully done. Dreamy. I think you’re really blessed to be around so much green and trees. Wonderful art inspiration but just good for the soul too. I hope you like your new place.

Thanks Wayne. Trying to get the feeling of sunlight required a LOT of yellow. I’ve seen turkey vultures coming out of those trees so I try to look alive!

Thank you Christine. I’ll take dreamy any day! I am still astounded by the amount of green here in Kentucky.

Bart, he is one of my favorites. Thanks for reminding me to study his work again.

Thanks Kristen. I’m thinking about adding more field because I have the space but that would disrupt the square format. Maybe I’ll see what happens.

Thank you Jo. I hope life treats you better soon. I miss seeing your pastels!

I appreciate knowing that, Grapes. I was going for a more contemporary look so I thought the square might be good. But then I second guess it and wonder if the trees are too “in your face.” On to the next one! 🙂

A stunner! I love your choice of square format. You definitely got your "wall of trees" here.

It's a perfect capture of high noon lighting - super bright on the top, going dense and darker below. It's a bright and sunny day with the mystery within.

Great work! ❤️

Nice, I like the colors. I thought the blurriness was on purpose, it gives an impressionist style

Thank you Terri. It’s nice having some trees to study now. They are good models.

Thanks Liz. Impressionistic blurriness might be my style.
