Scavenger Hunt from Life #191: May 2 2 - Jun 13

Ai, those lanterns are so beautiful. You captured the colorfulness in your painting. I love the painting of the banyan tree with the vase and colorful pieces in the foreground. I am assuming it is a banyan.

Hi all. Hope you all have a beautiful day.
Fletch

Sorry I haven’t been around. Rehab is a busy place and I don’t have much time. Went home on Sunday to check out all that stuff. Kids giving me breaks. Hopefully we will get the routine and it will be better/easier.

Joan love the clouds and flowers. Great on the crowd and your sub downtown. Makes me smile.

Ai, love the cars and ceiling decorations. Different!! Fun new food court.

Robin, clever magic and good garden tool. Love your hatching always.

ArizonaGal, clever vacation and fun find.

Pine Cone, fun info on the sponges.

Hi Fletch.

I’m smiling, I haven’t posted my oak leaves, I will try from my phone, not working on the iPad.

Thanks for all the good vibes. Hugs all around.

No 3 oak leaves out 3rd floor window, Ohuhu pens snd watercolors.

Jo, good to see you post and I see you worked out getting the image posted. I hope all is going well with Gene's PT. Give him a hug from me.

17 - rustic building - watercolors and ink
IMG_9815.jpeg

My plein air group went to the Peconic River Herb Farm this morning. I can always find something I like there to paint. This is 8 x 10.
18 - free space - watercolors (WIP - finishing details are needed.)

Jo - nice to see you are finding time to draw and are getting some relief. Prayers are with Gene, you and family. Pretty leaves.

Joan - before reading it was “rustic” I was looking at your painting and thinking you paint lived in houses just as well as pretty architectural mansions. In your second painting I was caught by how detailed and dimensional the pot in the foreground looks with just tone. Than read the “details needed” comment and laughed as it looks great without any lines.

Robin - Once again hatching used so well to shade and shape forms. When ever I use hatching I think of you and try a little harder. You also taught me years ago with your colored inks that tone is more important than color in capturing an image. Thank you.

I wanted to draw something I have never drawn before as repetition is not very stimulating so I used Free Space.

#1 Free space- Starfish
Will probably tweak on it more but the basics are there. Multiple grades of graphite in Strathmore Recycled Sketch book.

Thanks to all for inspiration and encouragement.

Fletch, thanks for your kind comments. The second building was done with my plein air group. I'll probably work a little more on differentiating the greens of the foliage. We always do a show to exhibit our work done on the locations we visit together. I like to make sure the paintings I do are really finished for that show. I don't put all of them in, but I like to have a variety of them to choose from.
Love the starfish and the textural details you added. I want to reach in and touch it. I haven't had a real starfish around in a while. One year there were a number of them that washed up on the beach here, but I haven't seen one in a long time.

I went down by the bay to sketch and then read. Unfortunately my pens, pencils, and paints were in the bag I took with me yesterday when I painted at the herb farm. Luckily I had my iPad with me to read my book, so I used Procreate for this. It was hard to see what I was doing in the bright sunlight on the screen (especially the water). It would have been better if I was doing it in the shade...also my eyes were still a bit dilated after seeing the eye doctor this morning.

#12 Elegant...Lily..plus some sweet cookies and a yellow Thai fruit, called LukChan....We ate the cookies away. while we sketched. The big lily still-life took too long, to be called a sketch... but it was done from life.... on a double page spread of 9x12 inch Art Creation sketchbook.... pencil and watercolor.

#13 Free space ...Lily corner at the cafe we went to today. The owner was re-arranging the flowers by trimming some old of them away... This was more of a sketch... about 30 minutes... in a double page spread of a small 12x12 cm. Art Creation sketchbook.

Joan: Thanks. Love your jazzy beach and gorgeous free-space. The rustic is really nice as well.

Fletch: Thanks so much. What a lovely starfish. You do super job on graphite.... esp. the little tiny thorn ?.. . I mean the unique rough feature of starfish... the 3D effect is right-on !!!

Jo: Thanks... sending you more good vibe for the things you have to deal with. What a lovely oak leaf piece.

Robin: Thanks. Such a lovely pattern set of goodies.... a happy place to be for a great artist.

Ai, thanks. Once again you found a special cafe. The cookies look yummy and the lily looks lovely. I like the person arranging the flowers too.

Jo, I hope all is going good for Gene's rehab. Thinking about you all a lot. Nice sketch of the relaxed hoodie.

Outstanding detail. Each unique and compelling. Love your style.

Hi Kristen2026, welcome.

Joan, the rustic building is perfect. The other shed/building is beautiful with the flowers. It is hard to believe you went out without your drawing/painting tools. The iPad sketch is perfect and so full of life and fun.

Robin, fun little jug of goodies. The flower is lovely.

Fletch, I drew because I felt guilty. Larry was with me, the photographer, and he sketched two great ones with pencil. Rarely sketches. I guess he was encouraging me, so…… Thanks. Your starfish and shadows is amazing. Love it.

Ai, I agree with Joan that you find the best cafes. The food looks good (much better that the power bar I’m eating) and the lily is gorgeous. The flower arranger sketch is great with lovely colors and full of life.

We are doing OK. Don’t know what I would do without our kids. They relieve me and take care of both of us. We still don’t have a date for leaving here. Gene is working hard but so difficult. Parkinson’s is a terrible thing. We appreciate your caring and support. I can always find a smile here. So grateful. Back when I can. Hugs all around.

Jo, thanks for your comments. I forget things because I keep switching which bag I am taking. I need to make sure I have duplicate materials in both bags, but then I realize something is missing when I just grab and go. lol
I'm so glad you've got the kids around to relieve you. I think of Gene a lot, especially on Wednesday's when I go to my Weight Watchers meeting. A group of us have been going for so long now that we get weighed and then all meet next door for a bagel breakfast. My friend, Elaine's husband has Parkinson's and she can't leave him alone at home any more because he falls a lot. So she brings him to breakfast. Now we have a weekly breakfast gathering and a few other people that he knows join us. He has a lot of difficulty doing everyday things and I see how much she has to do for him. Luckily between family and friends they have a big support system...but is still so hard and emotionally draining. ((Hugs to you both!!))

Kristen, Joan, and Jo: Thanks so much.

Jo: Love your hoodie. Hugs to you, your family, and Gene. Glad your kids help you out too.

Joan - the digi looks like you had fun!

Ai -the petals on your lily looks so delicate. I do not know how to say this without sounding silly but your lily looks prettier than the lily you photographed. I laughed when I examined the photo and saw the nut bowl was empty. And I love the hand sculpture.
It is not a thorn, it is basically a stack or pile of the little growths on its skin.

Jo - great hatching on the jacket. Glad you have a great support network. I know how important it is. Larry gets an extra star fir getting you to draw.

Hi Kristen, Robin, Ned, Pine Cone & lurkers

Still #1 Spent my art time piddling with the starfish.

Fletch, your additional "piddling" gave the starfish a lot more dimension.

Yesterday was a hot day here in NY, so my friend and I decided to go to Northport instead of going into the city in the heat. We found a few shady spots to keep comfortable while we sketched.
